PEI Lighthouses

The Lighthouses of Prince Edward Island

Lighthouses are welcome sight for everybody. Whether you’re a ship coming through on a foggy day, or a traveler looking to experience these great coastal structures, lighthouses are a symbol of welcome. There are over 50 of them in Prince Edward Island, many of them built in the late 1800’s when settlers arriving by ship needed guiding signals to the welcoming Island shorelines. Many of PEI’s lighthouses are still operational, and there are seven of them available for visitors to check out.

Make a few stops during your golfing vacation to visit a lighthouse or two. Visit the government of PEI website to make your own lighthouse map, and bring a camera. Lighthouses and the stunning coastal views around Prince Edward Island are a great way to get acquainted with the island.

If you want to mix accommodations in stay at the Baywatch Lighthouse in Brackley Beach or West Point Lighthouse which also features a restaurant and interesting museum. Check out the Wood Islands Lighthouse and Interpretive Museum near the ferry, or picnic at East Point Lighthouse & Welcome Centre. While not all lighthouses in PEI are available for the public many can be viewed from a distance, and as stated above, there a few that have been converted into great attractions.

These best self led lighthouse tours can be found by heading up the Points East Coastal Drive in PEI, which features five of the seven lighthouses available for visitation. Eagle’s View and Brudenell River Golf Course are also located along this drive.
