Getting to PEI

Below you'll find some helpful information about getting to Prince Edward Island. We've included links to airline and ferry schedules, as well as links to other sites that will help you plan your trip.

 

By Car

Open 24 hours, the 13km Confederation Bridge stretches through the Maritime district, linking Prince Edward Island with New Brunswick and offering travellers a convenient way of getting to the island. Crossing takes roughly 10 minutes and there are no queues, which makes the self-drive option quick and economical. Visit the Confederation Bridge website or phone toll-free 1-888-437-6565 for additional information.

** Note that tolls for the bridge are only paid when departing from the island.

International visitors must have a valid international driver's license to operate a vehicle in Canada. There are a number of car rental companies on the island, you can find a list of them here.

 

By Ferry

Ferry is a great and relaxing way to travel to PEI; getting you in the vacation state of mind before you get to your destination.

Northumberland Ferries regularly depart for Prince Edward Island from Caribou, Nova Scotia and dock at Wood Island, which is on the south east side of PEI.

** Note that the ferry service does not operate from the 21st of December until the 1st of May.


*** Please also note that the service operates on a round-trip basis only, with the full fare collected on return from the island.

CTMA offer a service from Îles de la Madeleine (the Magdalen Islands) to Souris, PEI at specific times each day. Their crossings schedule can be found here, or you can contact them on 1-888-986-3278.
** Note that from the 1st October to 27th March there are fewer crossings per week, so please consult their schedule for times and frequency.

 

By Air

Numerous airlines offer direct flights to the island from destinations in Canada and the United States.

 

From Canada

Air Canada flies directly from Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa and Toronto on a daily basis throughout the year, as well as offering additional flights during the summer months. Please visit their site for flight schedules, bookings and additional information, or call them on 1-888-247-2262.

WestJet Airlines depart from Toronto daily and also offer extra flights from May to October. Call their reservations office on 1-888-WESTJET(937-8538) or visit their site to book online.

 

From the U.S.

Delta Air Lines offer seasonal flights from Boston and New York between June and September. Please visit their site for exact departure schedules or call reservations on 800-241-4141.

Northwest Airlines also offer seasonal flights direct from Detroit between June and September. Contact them on 800-241-4141 for reservations, or visit their site to book online.

 

Chartered Flights

Prince Edward Air offer corporate charter services to and from the island. Please visit their site for contact details, if you are interested in chartering a flight.

 

Private Flights

Should you wish to fly your own plane to the island, you have the option of touching down at the Charlottetown or Summerside airports. Contact details can be found on their sites.

 

By Bus or Shuttle Service

Acadian Bus Lines depart daily from Moncton, New Brunswick to 3 destinations on the island: Borden-Carleton, Summerside and Charlottetown. They also offer connections from most destinations in North America. Shuttle services are provided by various companies from different locations and on different schedules. By Cruise

Several cruise ships dock in the port of Charlottetown from April to October, offering you a very unique way of arriving at the island!

Entry Requirements

American citizens or permanent residents of the United States do not require a passport to visit Canada, but some form of identification or document that establishes their citizenship (such as a birth or voter's certificate). International visitors must have a valid passport to enter the country with visa requirements varying on country of origin. For further details about visa requirements, please contact your local Canadian embassy.
